"Now, the photo has become one that really represents how quarantine has made me feel."
Kaya Marie is a 16-year-old photographer based in Eugene, Oregon. In WHIPLASH!, the young photographer captures a scene today's youth might strongly relate to, considering the times we are going through. Kaya Marie explained this work changed meaning for her over the course of the last few months:
"Originally, when I shot this photo it was a major representation of the stress I had been under at the time and the way it had made time feel drawn out. Now, the photo has become one that really represents how quarantine has made me feel. The way time draws out is amplified ten fold, after seeing the same things and living the same day over and over again things get a little black and white."
The photographer speaks for a generation absorbed in academic responsibilities, going through a sudden change from constant activity to forced isolation. By presenting a struggle in common, our youth can feel more connected and therefore, less alone.
